Your guide to creating a sustainable healthy lifestyle
I’m so glad you’re here! With each newsletter you will receive easily digestible tips regarding fitness, exercise, nutrition, meal prep, and much more!
A healthy lifestyle that produces lasting results is 100% possible, and my goal is to show you how you can achieve just that…it’s probably simpler than you think. I’m here to teach you that wellness doesn’t have to be complicated or boring. You can be excited about moving and fueling your body in ways that are sustainable for your unique journey.
So let’s dive in! Today’s topic covers three things that should be a part of EVERY workout. Whether you’re weight lifting, running, playing tennis, or whatever form of movement you’re doing, make sure you include these often overlooked elements of a great workout.
- Stretch : Stretching is so important but is often skipped in our workouts. Why? The most likely answer is time. We’re trying to get our workout done and move on to all the other things we have to do. But hear me say this : Taking 5 minutes to stretch is 100% worth your time. Make it a part of whatever time you have by sandwiching your workout between stretching. This helps to prevent injury during our workouts and also aids in our recovery after. So give yourself 2-3 minutes to stretch before you get started, and cool down with 2-3 minutes of stretching after. Your body will thank you!
- Correct Form : Proper technique is crucial for maximizing results and also for keeping you safe. Moving heavy weight incorrectly is ineffective and can cause injury. Learn the move first with weight you can control (body weight if needed!) before increasing weight.
- Breathe : Have you every noticed yourself holding your breath while working out? This is a common, involuntary response for a lot of people. However, sufficient oxygen is pretty necessary at all times (wink wink), including while we are working out. Fight your natural tendency to hold your breath by making a conscious effort to inhale and exhale every rep. For example, while lowering your body into a squat, inhale through your nose; exhale through your mouth while pushing to stand back up. Proper breathing technique can take some time to learn, and you may have to remind yourself to breathe throughout your workout. But, like with most things, it will come more naturally with practice!
Which one of these do you need to focus on in your next workout? I’d love to hear about it! Feel free to reply to this email, or pass this along to someone who might benefit.
